The legendary Roots crew, one of the most consistently solid names in hip-hop for the last 20 or so years, are coming out with a new full-length entitled How I Got Over on June 22. The album sees the Roots teaming up with artists like Phonte of Little Brother, along with some less predictable names like Dirty Projectors. The lead single, “Dear God 2.0″, showcases the raw realism of Black Thought’s vocals over the gentle crooning of Monsters of Folk’s “Dear God”, assuring the listener that the Roots are still as angry and politically charged as ever, and this new diversification of sounds across the musical spectrum shows the group maturing in new and unexpected ways.
