Oddisee is a Washington DC - based hip hop producer. You might have heard of him, he's worked with the likes of Jazzy Jeff, Talib Kweli, Little Brother and so on. I wasn't too familiar, but was intrigued to see he's done these four free albums, each one themed around a season, and this week sees the release of 'Spring'. It's great. It's a classy showcase of the 'samples & real instruments' sound, away from the 808s and synth strings that have dominated the Dirty South vibes of recent years; if you like funk drums, classic string arrangements, soul melodies and blaxploitation organ riffs this is gonna be right up your street. Readers of this blog will surely be familiar with Oliver Daysoul who provides vocals on track 6 - who also appeared on Hudson Mohawke's track 'Joy Fantastic'. Being a drum nerd though, this one's all about those chopped up breaks for me. Brilliantly done.
