The stars and the moon: Ana Caravelle

The beauty of the remix lies in the unexpected; there are no forbidden choices, no predetermined paths, and no barriers to separate genre, culture or style. Ana Caravelle (vocalist, harpist, and girlfriend to quasi-ambient beat genius Asura) is clearly no stranger to this fact; her latest release, Basic Climb, will see a release on Non Projects on the 28th of September, and the album brings Ana’s hypnotizing brand of indie-folk magic in spades.

It also brings something far less expected from an album of beautifully crafted, mostly acoustic tracks: remixes from the likes of Shigeto, Take, and of course Asura. The addition of the beatmakers’ styles to Ana’s voice leads to fantastic mutations in sound, proving that the remixer is limited only by his or her own creativity. Enjoy Shigeto’s remix, and look out for Basic Climb on Sept. 28th.

Also, though I would hazard a guess that most readers aren’t coming to Squeegie for acoustic indie/folk, I would strongly urge anyone not simply seeking “the whomp” to give “Where Have You Been?” a listen; I can safely say it’s one of the most beautiful songs I’ve heard in quite some time.
